The national chapter of AIGA encourages the discussion of sustainable design practices to continue on a local level. First, Seattle needs to have a Green Salon established, so there’s an on-going venue for getting together with other designers who share your interest in treading more lightly on the planet. Then, as a next step, you’ll need to join and participate. But first things first: Here information on how to set up a Green Salon.

I recently began the effort to open the first “Eco-friendly”,”Green” Salon in the North Atlanta area. I put together 12 or so categories to have in the design of the leased space and incorporated in our daily routine of our business, ie. recycled paper for printed materials, use of non toxic cleaning products, low energy appliances, cfl lighting, recycled flooring, tankless water heating, in house filtered water-eliminating delivery service, eliminating plastic bottles and recycling all that we can.
The Salon Cafe’ in Dacula, GA intends to reduce it’s Carbon footprint, helping our community, helping to bring these possibilities to others.
Can anyone offer additional steps that I have not thought of or realized as a possibility within the realm of a Hair Salon within an already fabricated space.
